Onyx

Sweet greetings!  My name is Onyx and I found my way to Forever Loved after being found abandoned in a stranger's back yard.

I am an 8 year old 84 lb Pit Bull/Mastiff mix and don’t be fooled by my heft - I am a lover, not a fighter.  The vet gave me a clean bill of health, but said it would be good if I lost about 6 lbs.  I have a bit of arthritis in my back legs, so losing some weight will help with that.  I love to go for walks!

Strangely enough, when we pass parked cars, I stop by the doors and longingly look at you to climb in, as I am very good for car rides.  I am house trained at the shelter, and I can use a doggy door.

I only bark when I first see you, because I am so happy and want you to come to me and love on me.  I am a people dog, for sure!  Petting and loving on me make my day, and I don’t know a stranger.  Kids are fine with me.  I haven’t really been around other dogs, and don’t know how to play with other dogs, but I can be near them safely and go for walks with them.  It’s just when they come too near my face that I get scared.

If you have another dog, I hope it’s a nice balanced dog, and we can meet safely and patiently.  Although I do enjoy walks, I do pull hard, so make sure you have the strength to handle me.  I’m still learning leash manners and they say I am doing quite well with a front clip harness.

I am a volunteer favorite and that old saying “to know me is to love me” is so true.  I never want to be abandoned again - I’m ready to make your home be the best place on earth!  Apply to meet me and you will see just how special and good I am.
