Become a foster

Got love to spare at home?

Fostering means providing a temporary home to a dog without necessarily adopting it. Fostering not only saves that senior animal’s life, but allows us the space and resources to go save another dog from:

  • a local shelter
  • a neglectful home
  • an owner who may have passed away
  • many other life circumstances that arise

During the foster process, we actively support you, and we make efforts to find the dog a forever home.

Our sanctuary is located near 64th Street and Cactus and our veterinarian's office is only 5 miles away.

What you can expect from FLPS:

  • Provide all medical care for your foster dog
  • Loan out baby gates, crates, dog bed or other equipment you may need in order to care for your foster dog
  • An initial bag of transition food (dry and/or wet) to help you get your foster dog started on their healthy diet at your house.  We offer additional food if needed
  • A team of volunteers who are available to answer and assist with behavior questions, medical issues, and general support
  • A team of volunteers working to network and promote your foster dog to find a forever home
  • Boarding for the foster dog at our sanctuary if you need to be out of town

What FLPS can expect from you:

  • Provide a loving temporary home for your foster dog
  • Opportunities to socialize the foster dog through quality time spent with you and any other members of your household
  • No more than 4 hours in a crate or 6-8 hours when allowed to roam free in the house while the dog is home alone
  • Periodic transport of your foster dog to/from medical appointments, adoption events, and meet and greets with potential adopters
  • Updates on how your foster dog is doing, what you have learned about them, and some photos/videos you take

Thank you for your interest in fostering one of our seniors!

How we support our foster caregivers

Our foster program is a little different than other rescues because of our focus on senior dogs. These special pups are still more than able to enjoy a high quality of life.

The amount of time they have left may range from weeks to months to years, and we aim to provide the best possible circumstances for these dogs during their golden years. We help you accomplish this by:

  • Finding a forever home for the dog you're fostering
  • Providing high quality veterinary care
  • Providing medication and nutritious food

Through donations, sponsorships, and grants, we are able to provide medical care to the dogs living in our foster homes.
